The Birth-Story of Jamison, born on 09-21-2015 at Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center

I met Katie and Jacque Risley during a prenatal class at Gerald Champion Regional Hospital beginning of July 2015 where I presented my work as a professional photographer. As soon as they heard that I was a birth-photographer, they looked at each other and knew immediately they don't want to take their pictures themselves ...

Katie loves all kind of pictures. Jacque knew that she wanted to enjoy the moments of their very first baby without a camera in her hands. Both did not want to concentrate on taking pictures of each other, they wanted to be in the pictures, be part of the story.

It is a very special honor for me when a family decides to have me included in their birth-story as these moments are very intimate. I promised them to stay in the back as much as I could. And that is what I did ... even they involved me in their family!

Katie decided to have an induction on September 19th, 2015. So, we met at Gerald Champion Memorial Hospital, Alamogordo, New Mexico, at 4 p.m. for the check-in! Katie even had make-up on. She is so pretty. After taking some photographs of the check-in, I wished them all the best and left the hospital.

Once home, I was always on alert just in case little Jamison wanted to arrive quickly. The night passed by without any message.

During the Sunday, 20th, nothing really went on. After dinner, suddenly a message from Jacque came asking if I could sit and wait with their parents in the waiting room of the Maternity and child department. So I did!

I arrived at the hospital after 10 p.m. Together with their parents, I waited hour after hour. In the morning, I was afraid if I go and get breakfast I would miss the birth. So, I just had a granola bar.

At about 9.30 a.m. Jacque called me into the delivery room, as the delivery started to pick up. Jacque took care of Katie, tried to make her as comfortable as she could be. Katie already looked tired from all the long hours of having contractions but she still had the strength of a MOM to be!

I sneaked behind the bed as I did not want to disturb anybody. I held my camera tightly ready for the birth. What I lived through during the last hour of Katie's labor is incredible. I was overwhelmed and absolutely happy and so thankful to witness this part of their story.

Jamison Gaddis Risley! A sweet little boy, born healthy at 6lbs 6oz and 19.5 in @ 10:37 in the morning of September 21st, 2015.

I thank you so much for trusting me as your birth photographer Katie and Jacque. I am so happy and thankful and can only say I arrived as a stranger and left as a family-member! THANK YOU!
